Empowering Climate Action through Biochar: Insights into the U.S. and Canada Biochar Protocol V1.0
The Climate Action Reserve recently adopted its inaugural U.S. and Canada Biochar Protocol, opening a new pathway for high-quality credits from natural climate solutions in the global voluntary carbon market. Biochar production leverages the productive use of various feedstocks, often considered waste biomass, including non-merchantable residues from timber harvests and fuel thinnings. The U.S. and Canada Biochar Protocol supports activities that divert biomass from business-as-usual uses, convert it into biochar, and apply it in ways that ensure long-term carbon storage. This initiative mobilizes capital for climate projects, engages communities, and achieves significant global GHG reductions.
Join Climate Action Reserve’s webinar featuring Jon Remucal, Director of Nature-Based Solutions, and Marissa Spence, Forest Manager, as they delve into the process of quantifying, monitoring, reporting, and verifying the climate benefits of biochar production and use.
