From Biochar to Carbon Intelligence
How can data and machine learning make pyrolysis more profitable, create higher-value carbon products and let plants learn together without giving up control of their data?
The biochar industry needs to create more value from every plant, every tonne of biomass and every production run. Join IBI for a live webinar with Tobias Schweitzer and Dr. Marius Snella Köppel, co-founders of AIRA Holding GmbH, on how data science and machine learning can help make that happen.
The session starts with the plant itself. Process data can improve stability, productivity, maintenance, energy use, emissions and product quality, which makes pyrolysis more efficient and more profitable.
The bigger opportunity goes beyond optimization. If we understand better how feedstocks and process conditions shape the final material, the question changes from “What biochar does my plant produce?” to “What carbon product does the market need, and how can we make it?” That shift could open new markets for higher-value biochars and biocarbons and strengthen biochar’s role as an alternative to fossil carbon.
The long-term vision is carbon intelligence: local production sites that keep improving, learn from shared knowledge and become part of decentralized smart biorefineries.
The conversation will explore:
- Making pyrolysis more profitable through better stability, productivity, maintenance, efficiency, emissions and quality
- Creating higher-value carbon products by connecting market needs with feedstocks, process conditions and material properties
- Learning across the biochar ecosystem while companies stay in control of their data and know-how
- Building the next generation of renewable-carbon infrastructure, from smarter plants to decentralized smart biorefineries
This is your chance to drive the conversation. The session includes two open Q&A rounds and a live audience poll. You can submit questions in advance through the pre-event form or ask them live. The session will be recorded and shared with all registrants.
Co-Founder & CEO, AIRA Holding GmbH
Tobias Schweitzer is co-founder and CEO of AIRA. He works where industrial decarbonization, biochar, data strategy and machine learning meet. At AIRA, he turns technical and environmental challenges into practical data-driven applications and new business opportunities. His work explores how better use of data can improve industrial processes, support higher-value renewable carbon products and enable new forms of collaboration while strengthening data sovereignty. He is particularly interested in decentralized smart biorefineries and a more distributed renewable-carbon economy.
Co-Founder & CTO, AIRA Holding GmbH | Particle Physicist & Machine Learning Researcher
Dr. Marius Snella Köppel is co-founder and CTO of AIRA. He is a particle physicist with a strong background in machine learning, real-time data processing and scientific computing. At AIRA, he leads the technical development of machine-learning approaches for industrial process data, including models that predict and help explain emissions in biochar production. His focus is on combining efficient models, process data and technical infrastructure to move from prediction toward decision support, optimization and learning across multiple production sites.
