The symposium aims to foster a proactive discussion on the synergies, constraints, and trade-offs of bio-based carbon dioxide removal (CDR). By focusing on the conditions required to deploy gigaton-scale CDR systems in real regional and industrial contexts, the symposium moves beyond debates about whether carbon removal is needed towards how it can be responsibly designed, implemented, and governed. The objective is to support regional policymakers and industries in understanding the risks and opportunities of becoming first movers in the emerging carbon management economy.
