Call for Leadership Advisory Team for the IBI Biochar Academy-CBEN Conference
The International Biochar Initiative (IBI) and the Circular Bionutrient Economy Network (CBEN) are partnering to offer a multi-day biochar education and capacity-building program in East Africa.
The multi-day event features a new IBI Biochar Academy focused on business development (5 days), and culminates with the integration of a nutrient and carbon recovery-focused CBEN conference (2 days). Learn more about the program here.
The aims of the two events are to bring together large international stakeholders, smallholder farmers, project developers, biochar producers, carbon professionals, and an array of biochar and organic fertilizer industry professionals. Attendees can expect to:
- Develop knowledge and skills in biochar business development, covering challenges such as market expansion and carbon certification and sales
- Build community across the biochar and nutrient recovery industry at the regional and global scale
- Identify common regional challenges to biochar production and nutrient management, and work with a cohort to develop solutions
- Advocate and educate about biochar with cross-sector, international stakeholders
- Connect with representatives within project finance, standardisation, and research
Leadership Advisory Team Overview
IBI-CBEN planning committee is looking for approximately 5 individuals to join us on a leadership team that will help to guide curriculum development, program planning, and ultimately attend the program as a key support members (facilitator, trainer, or other support staff). In exchange for the commitment outlined below, members of the leadership team receive 100% tuition coverage for the entire IBI-CBEN event, June 2-6, 2025.
Responsibilities & Commitment
The leadership team can be expected to commit an estimated 12 hours per month February-early June 2025. The responsibilities of the leadership team include:
- Monthly calls with Leadership Team (~2 hours/month) February-May
- Monthly 1:1 with “Agenda Master”
- Support developing curriculum content for the IBI-CBEN program focused on Business Development in the context of biochar and nutrient and carbon recovery for soil health. As a member of the leadership team, you will help identify topics for the curriculum. Each topic will then be assigned to one member of the leadership team. As a topic leader, you will be responsible for coordinating appropriate trainers within that topic-area and/or developing workshop content, etc for the program. You will work closely with and be supported by IBI and CBEN teams. Some topics already have content developed by these teams.
- Attend the IBI-CBEN event June 2-6, 2025 and play a key support role during the event. Roles available include: Facilitators, Trainers, and other organizational staff.
