Remembering Why We Do This Work

As the end of the year draws near, I find myself reflecting on the journey we’ve taken over the past months.
Sometimes we get so focused on what’s still missing that we lose sight of how far we’ve already come and, more importantly, the purpose that keeps us moving forward.
This month, I’d like to invite you to take just a couple of minutes to pause and reconnect with your “why”: why we chose this path, why we wake up each day wanting to contribute, and why it’s worth continuing to fight for what we believe in.
For me, that “why” is about the desire to live in a world more in harmony with everything around us: with nature, with the other species we share space, water, air, and other resources with, and also, something we sometimes forget, with our own communities. Because human beings are part of nature too.
The main message I’d like to share is that we keep advancing biochar, environmental care, and community well-being — without losing sight of the purpose behind our actions. I truly believe that when we act out of love, empathy, and connection with all living things, our work flows better and has a deeper impact.
Reading the news can sometimes feel overwhelming. It’s important to stay informed, but it’s equally important to nurture hope — to remind ourselves that change is possible through the stories, projects, and people making it happen.
As the wonderful Jane Goodall once said, “What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”
That’s why I feel so inspired to be part of the IBI. It fills me with energy to work with an incredible team and to be connected to a global community of thousands of people who care deeply about the environment, the future, and all living forms.
It’s a privilege to witness so many examples of people healing the planet and leaving their mark for future generations. So, thank you — for trusting IBI, for sharing your important and inspiring projects with us, for not giving up, and for continuing to contribute from your corner of the world.
Amid all the noise and chaos, in you I see a more hopeful, compassionate, and connected future.
With gratitude,
