Dr. Ellen Graber

Dr. Ellen Graber has been a research scientist (rank equivalent to Full Professor) since 1992 at The Volcani Center, Agricultural Research Organization (ARO), which is part of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, State of Israel. She currently serves as Head of the Department of Soil Chemistry, Plant Nutrition, and Microbiology, which is part of the Institute of Soil, Water and Environmental Sciences of the ARO. Dr. Graber has dedicated her research career to multi-faceted and cross-disciplinary research in agriculture and the environment, with a focus since 2009 on biochar use in agriculture. Specifically, she concentrates on biochar-elicited plant growth promotion and plant resistance to disease, as well as on biochar chemistry, and interactions between biochar and soil-applied agrochemicals and soil contaminants. In 2013, Dr. Graber was named Volcani Center “Scientist of the Year” in recognition of her biochar-related research. Today she serves as Head of the Science Committee of the IBI, and shortly will begin a 3-year tenure on the Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils, which is the advisory committee of the Global Soil Partnership of the FAO. Dr. Graber also teaches graduate level courses in Global Environmental Pollution at Bar Ilan University and Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
