Apply for the 2026 Keeling Curve Prize – For Biochar Projects

The Keeling Curve Prize is now open for applications. It awards USD 50,000 to 10 global projects that demonstrate real, scalable impact in reducing or removing greenhouse gases. The “Carbon Sinks” category includes biochar projects with verified or verifiable carbon sequestration.

If your organization is directly implementing biochar systems that meet these criteria, we encourage you to apply.

Key criteria to meet before applying with a biochar project:

• Your project must already be operating, not a concept or pilot in planning.

• You must quantify CO₂ removals with a clear method or verification pathway.

• The biochar must show long-term storage potential and measurable climate benefit.

• You must demonstrate potential for replication or scaling beyond a single site.

• You must provide transparent data and be ready to share non-confidential project details publicly.

Deadline for applications: January 15, 2026 or 500 applications

IBI is not applying directly, but we encourage members whose projects meet these criteria to do so. Winning this recognition brings both visibility and credibility to the biochar community.
