Puro.earth shares insights from the recent Biochar Persistence Workshop, where standards and researchers met to align science and methods on biochar durability. In July 2025, Puro.earth called for a cross-standard workshop to align scientific and methodological approaches on biochar persistence. A few months later, that conversation took place.

In October, Puro.earth convened the Biochar Persistence Workshop, gathering Carbon Standard International, Isometric, Rainbow, Verra, and leading researchers in biochar stability. Held under the Chatham House Rule, the meeting created space for open dialogue across science and standards, aiming to strengthen consistency and transparency in quantifying biochar carbon persistence.

Puro.earth has now published a detailed article summarizing key learnings from that session. The reflections cover:

• Constructive exchanges between researchers and standards
