Where Does Biochar Make the Biggest Difference in Restoration and Forestry?

Hi everyone!

As I’ve been reading more about land restoration and forestry projects around the world, I’m struck by how many different entry points there are for biochar: from rebuilding degraded soils to supporting seedling establishment and even reducing wildfire risks.

But because restoration work is so diverse, I imagine the way biochar “shows up” can look very different depending on the landscape, the goals, and the local challenges.

I’d really love to learn from those of you who work directly in restoration or forestry:
Where have you seen biochar make the strongest impact?
Is it in soil recovery, seedling survival, water retention, post-fire rehabilitation, or something completely different?

Any experiences, small trials, large projects or unexpected outcomes would be great to hear! I’m curious how practitioners and researchers are seeing biochar shape these systems on the ground.

Looking forward to learning from your perspectives!
