Celebrating 20 Years: A Note from IBI Board Chair

This year, the International Biochar Initiative  marks its 20th anniversary.  

Over the past two decades, IBI, together with its leaders and community, has been at the forefront of advancing the understanding and development of biochar. What began as a pioneering vision 20 years ago  has now become a reality. 

Today, biochar is recognized as a versatile solution contributing to a wide range of applications and supporting multiple sustainable development goals.

At the same time, it has rapidly emerged as  one of the most advanced and scalable pathways for real carbon removal.  Throughout this journey, IBI has supported and will continue to support biochar journeys around the world.

Remaining true to its vision and mission, to  empower communities and inspire industries  to integrate biochar based solutions towards healthier ecosystems and economies worldwide. This progress has been made possible thanks to the dedication, insight, and leadership of those who believed in its potential from the very beginning.

To all of you who have contributed to this journey,  we extend our sincere gratitude  as we celebrate this milestone. We also  look to the future. IBI remains committed not only to supporting the growth of the biochar sector, to helping  shape and forge its future.
