Webinar: Implementing Real-World Forestry Adaptation Solutions

Home / Webinar: Implementing Real-World Forestry Adaptation Solutions
Wednesday, October 19, 2016 / 9:00 am – 10:30 am CST

This free webinar will discuss the strategies implemented to mitigate the impacts of climate change on approximately 400 acres of scrub oak forest of the Florence County Forest located in Florence County, Wisconsin.

The Florence County Forest and Sustainable Resources Institute used the Adaptation Workbook, a resource of the Climate Change Response Framework, to design the project. Forest stands included in the project area had already experienced 90% mortality due to a combination of drought and other factors, and these stressors are expected to become more intense in the future. A wide variety of tree species projected to be favored under a range of future climates were planted. In addition, a first-ever demonstration of wood ash and biochar soil amendments within a forest ecosystem in the region was conducted. Soil amendment application methods and initial results of soil amendment monitoring will be discussed.
